Crew Return To Lead EC, Take Over League's Best Record In Rout

Robbie Rogers joined Emmanuel Ekpo in assisting Alejandro Moreno on a 69th minute goal, then scored unassisted four minutes later to lead the defending Major League Soccer champion Columbus Crew to a 3-0 shutout Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

Adam Moffet wrapped the scoring in the 86th off a Gino Padula assist as the Crew regained the top spot in the Eastern Conference at 9-3-9 with 36 points, but also has the league's best record over the Houston Dynamo of the Western Conference (10-6-5, 35).

Columbus has also won their last four games, had their second straight shutout victory and their fifth such victory in their last 10 games. The Crew will host FC Dallas next Saturday at Crew Stadium.

San Jose is in last place in the Western Conference standings at 4-11-5 with 17 points and will host the Kansas City Wizards August 22.
