Sole possession of first place in the United Soccer Leagues Second Division will be on the line next Saturday after Joey Worthen assisted Mike Burke on a 41st-minute goal in the Richmond Kickers 1-0 shut out of the Real Maryland Monarchs at University of Richmond Stadium Saturday.
The Kickers (10-3-5) are tied for the league lead with the Wilmington Hammerheads (11-4-2) at 35 points and both teams face off next Saturday at the Legion Sports Complex in Wilmington, NC.
Real Maryland falls to 7-9-1 with 22 points and are tied for fifth with Crystal Palace Baltimore (6-8-4). The Monarchs hit the road to face the Harrisburg City Islanders Sunday, then host the Bermuda Hogges next Saturday.
The top five teams in the league standings qualify for the playoffs and the Hammerheads locked up a playoff berth last weekend.
