David Beckham scored an 80th minute goal off a deflection of a throw-in Saturday and the Los Angeles Galaxy won the Honda SuperClasico series with fellow Major League Soccer foe Chivas USA in a 1-0 victory at both teams' shared home, The Home Depot Center.
The Galaxy, the host team for the game, won their fourth SuperClasico series crown in the last five years and are making a move for the lead in the Western Conference standings. LA is 9-4-11 with 38 points for second place, two behind the conference-leading Houston Dynamo (11-6-7, 40). Los Angeles gets a break from MLS play until September 12 when they host FC Dallas.
Chivas is now 10-8-3 with 33 points and tied for fourth place with Real Salt Lake (9-9-6). They will host the New England Revolution at THDC the day after the Galaxy next play.
