For the second time in nearly two weeks, the defending United Soccer Leagues First Division champion Vancouver Whitecaps and the Charleston Battery faced off, this time with both teams earning a point in the standings due to a 1-1 tie Thursday at Blackbaud Stadium.
On August 7 at Saputo Stadium, the Whitecaps held firm and won, 2-1, over the Battery.
Wes Knight fed Charles Gbeke with a pass in the fifth minute which gave Vancouver the early lead, but two minutes into the second half, Tsuyoshi Yoshitake drove a shot to Ian Fuller and connected with the back of the net for the tying goal.
Charleston is now 12-4-9 with 45 points for second place in the USL1 standings, three behind the Portland Timbers, who the Battery host next Friday.
Vancouver is at 7-9-7 with 28 points and in seventh place. They will host the Miami FC Blues at Saputo this Sunday.
