US Men's National Team head coach Bob Bradley announced a 20-man training camp roster for their next CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying contest Wednesday against Mexico at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
This will be the first meeting since Mexico decimated the US, 5-0, in the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where the US was attempting to become the champion for the third straight edition of the biennial event.
Of the 20 selected, all but three played in the FIFA Confederation Cup final against Brazil and nine of the players were on the roster for their last WCQ game against Mexico, a 2-0 victory at Columbus Crew Stadium.
The US is in second place in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup at 3-0-1 with 10 points, two points behind Costa Rica in the hexagonal table. Mexico is currently fourth at 2-3-0 with six points.
The top three teams in the standings after 10 games played will automatically qualify for the World Cup field, but the fourth place team must face South America's fifth place team in a two-game playoff for a tournament berth.
The US, though, is 0-22-1 in WCQ games played in Mexico and the draw -- a scoreless one -- happened November 2, 1997.
The game will be shown on most cable and satellite systems for free as Mun2, a Spanish-language channel, will offer the game live at 4 p.m. Wednesday and in English.
In another note, ESPN, who normally televises USMNT games, will air a special, live, 30-minute edition of SportsCenter with Bob Ley and Alexi Lalas previewing the game. It is the first ESPN has aired a special edition of its flagship show for an event they are not actually airing.
The 20 players will arrive in Miami, FL for training camp Monday.
