Islanders-Timbers Draw Changes Little In USL1 Standings

Before the night began Thursday, the Puerto Rico Islanders (9-4-7) and the Portland Timbers (9-1-8) were tied for the lead in the United Soccer Leagues First Division standings with 34 points.

After meeting each other on the pitch at Portland's PGE Park, not much changed...except that both teams played to a scoreless draw and they are still tied for the lead in the standings.

Two other teams are currently nipping at the heels of the duo -- the Charleston Battery (8-3-8, 32 points, third) and the Carolina RailHawks (9-4-3, 30 points, fourth), who play each other Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC.

Puerto Rico hits the road again Saturday against the defending league champion Vancouver Whitecaps while the Timbers are off until August 1 when they face the Minnesota Thunder in Blaine, MN.
