Ansu Torre's first two goals in his Vancouver Whitecaps career were more than enough for the defending United Soccer Leagues First Division champions from keeping Major League Soccer's Toronto FC from claiming their first Nutrilite Canadian Championship trophy with a 2-0 victory Wednesday at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver.
The NCC is a three-team, round-robin competiton between Toronto, Vancouver and fellow USL1 foe Montreal Impact to determine the winner of the Voyageurs Cup and become the official representative of Canada in the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League.
The Impact, defending Cup champions, have already been eliminated from this year's competition with a 0-3-0 record, but could help play spoiler in the tournament's final game June 18 against Toronto.
If Toronto, 2-1-0 with six points and in second place in the competition, beats the Impact by more than four goals, Toronto wins the trophy; otherwise, the Whitecaps (3-1-0, nine points) gets the title and the CCL berth.
