US Men's National Team Defender Oguchi Onyewu filed a lawsuit in Brussels, Belgium Tuesday, claiming Jelle Van Damme, a player for Anderlecht in the country's top soccer league, called him a "dirty monkey" on several occasions during the first game May 21 of their two-game league championship series against Onyewu's Standard Liege, who eventually won the title on a 2-1 aggregate score.
Van Damme has denied the allegations and says he is not a racist.
Anderlecht officials said they had not been made aware of the impending case.
