US Soccer president Sunil Gulati told reporters Wednesday the organization is close to announcing a two-game international friendly series between the US Men's National Team and Iran.
If successful, it would be the first time both teams have met on the pitch since a 1-1 draw in January 2000 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.
Gulati says the first game could happen November 14 or 18 in Tehran with the return game in the US in either late 2010 or 2011.
In 1998, the US lost to Iran, 2-1, at the FIFA World Cup in France.
