United Wins Another Atlantic Cup Over Red Bulls

For the seventh time in its eight-year existence, DC United claimed another Atlantic Cup trophy with a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer action Thursday from RFK Stadium in Washington, DC.

United swept the two-game series and won by an aggregate score of 5-2, winning the first game at Giants Stadium, 3-2, April 26.

Santiago Quaranta scored first for DC with assists from Fred and Luciano Emilio in the 36th minute, then Jamie Moreno scored on a penalty kick three minutes into second-half stoppage time in Thursday's tilt.

United improved to 4-2-7 with 19 points and are in second place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the conference-leading Chicago Fire, who DC faces in its next game June 13 at Toyota Park.

The Red Bulls are dead last in the conference at 2-8-3 with nine points and are at the New England Revolution Sunday.
