Combined with their 4-0 win Saturday over the Chicago Red Stars and St. Louis Athletica's 2-1 win Sunday at Sky Blue FC, the Los Angeles Sol officially clinched the first of four playoff spots in the inaugural season of Women's Professional Soccer Monday.
Four of the league's seven teams advance to the playoffs, which offer a unique format.
The regular season champion -- more than likely, the Sol -- earns an automatic trip to the WPS Championship Game August 22 at The Home Depot Center.
The second-place team at the end of the season gets a bye into the league semifinal, which they will host August 18 or 19.
The third and fourth place teams will meet in a one-game playoff with the winner facing the second-place team with that winner meeting the regular season champion for the championship.
