Rapids' Cummings Named MLS POW

Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 14 of the 2009 season Monday after scoring two goals and assisting on a third in their 3-0 home win Saturday against DC United.

Cummings, who won the award for the first time in his career, helped extend their home winning streak against United at Dick's Sporting Goods Park to 10 games.

Cummings, who has five goals and six assists this season, had career highs last season for Colorado in games played (26), starts (17), goals (six) and assists (four).

This is his first Player of the Week award in his career and he also was nominated Monday for MLS/Sierra Mist Goal of the Week honors. He won that award in Week 12 this season.
