Christen Press scored an unassisted goal in the 64th minute and Iris Mora assisted Kelley O'Hara on their opening point as the defending United Soccer Leagues W-League champion Pali Blues edged the Ventura County Fusion, 2-1, Saturday at Buena High School.
Heather Vandevanter assisted Colleen Gibson on Ventura County's only goal in the 75th minute.
Pali is 5-0-3 with 18 points and are also the defending Western Conference champion. They will host the Fusion this Sunday at Palisades High School but travel to the Los Angeles Legends Wednesday at Bishop Mora High School.
Ventura County is 1-3-2 with five points and tied for last place in the division with the Legends (1-5-2). They will be at the Seattle Wolves Monday, then head to the Vancouver Whitecaps Wednesday.
