Christen Press scored the game-winning goal unassisted in the 87th minute as the host and defending United Soccer League W-League champion Pali Blues edged the Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-1, Tuesday at Pacific Palisades High School.
Pali, also the defending regular season champion of the Western Conference, saw Nikki Washington score their first goal, also unassisted, in the 56th minute.
Vancouver tied the score in the 84th minute when Chelsea Buckland fed a pass to Jodi Ann Robinson.
Pali leads the conference standings at 4-0-3 with 15 points while Vancouver is 1-2-4 with seven points and tied for fourth place with the Colorado Force (1-1-4).
Both teams have the Ventura County Fusion as a common next opponent -- Pali visits them Saturday, Vancouver hosts them July 1.
