Randi Patterson's unassisted goal at the half-hour mark was all the offense the Charleston Battery needed to regain the lead in the United Soccer Leagues First Division standings Thursday after a 1-0 defeat of the Puerto Rico Islanders at Blackbaud Stadium.
It was the third straight time these teams have met this season and Puerto Rico has won the last two games by 1-0 scores.
The Battery is now 7-2-6 with 27 points and leads the Islansers (7-4-4, 25) by two points.
Charleston is off until next Sunday when they face the Montreal Impact at Saputo Stadium.
Puerto Rico continues playing on the road for their next two games -- Saturday at the Carolina RailHawks and July 4 at the Miami FC Blues.
