Ocean City, Real Maryland Take Final Two LHUSOC Second Round Spots

In games postponed Tuesday due to weather issues, the Ocean City Barons of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League and the Real Maryland Monarchs of the USL Second Division earned second round spots in the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

Byron Carmichael scored two goals, one off a Neal Melchionni assist in the third minute and the other unassisted in the 33rd minute, and Ryan Richter connected with J.T. Noone in the 78th minute as the Barons shut out Crystal Palace Baltimore of USL2 , 3-0, at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, NJ Wednesday.

In the other game, Ryan Cordeiro scored in the 14th minute off a Gary Brooks assist as the host Monarchs beat the Aegean Hawks FC of the US Adult Soccer Association, 1-0, at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.

The game was called in the 74th minute after a 90-minute lightning delay caused a city ordinance to go into effect that the field could not be used after 10 p.m. local time.

Both teams will meet Tuesday at Ocean City.
