Monarchs Kick Destiny's Plans In The Back Of The Net

Lucio Gonzaga scored the game's only goal off a Ryan Cordeiro assist in the 47th minute as the host Real Maryland Monarchs shut out the Richmond Kickers, 1-0, Saturday in United Soccer Leagues Second Division play Saturday at Richard Montgomery High School.

Real Maryland is 5-4-0 with 15 points and is tied for second in the standings. Richmond is two points behind the Monarchs at 3-2-4 with 13 points, good for a fifth place tie with the Western Mass Pioneers.

The Kickers look to rebound with two games on their schedule this week -- at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Sunday, then at the Charlotte Eagles next Saturday.
