Players from Major League Soccer and Women's Professional Soccer have been nominated for the 2009 edition of The ESPY Awards to take place July 15 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and air July 19.
Five players have been nominated as Best MLS Player: Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Juan Pablo Angel (New York Red Bulls), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy) and Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew).
Marta, a three-time FIFA World Women's Player of the Year winner who now plays for the WPS-leading Los Angeles Sol, is nominated for Best Female International Athlete, along with Russians Yelena Isinbayeva (pole vaulter) and Dinara Safina (tennis), Australia's Stephanie Rice (swimming) and Mexico's Lorena Ochoa (golf).
Fans can now vote for their favorites in those and the other 35 categories through July 11 at www.espys.tv or via their mobile phone at www.espn.mobi.
