Steven Beattie's unassisted 13th minute goal was all the host St. Louis Lions needed to shut out the defending United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League champion Thunder Bay Chill, 1-0, Sunday at the Tony Glavin Soccer Complex in St. Louis.
The Lions are 6-2-4 with 22 points and in second place in the Central Conference, Heartland Division standings, three points behind the unbeaten Des Moines Menace (7-0-4, 25).
Thunder Bay is in fifth place at 3-3-3 with 12 points.
The Lions host the Kansas City Brass this Sunday while the Chill are at the Brass Thursday but first travel to the Springfield Demize Monday.
