Megan Tomlinson scored in the 37th minute via a Cortni Joyner assist and Elizabeth Hammerby helped Alexa Newfield on a goal three minutes later before lightning forced officials to stop the game and give the Atlanta Silverbacks a 2-0 road win against the Hampton Roads Pirahnas in United Soccer Leagues W-League play Friday at Virginia Wesleyan College.
The Silverbacks are perfect at 5-0-0 with 15 points and lead the Eastern Conference, Atlantic Division. They will face the Northern Virginia Majestics on the road Saturday and then head to the Richmond Kickers Destiny Sunday.
Hampton Roads is now 3-3-0 with nine points and in third place. The Pirahnas host the Cary Lady Clarets next Sunday.
