LHUSOC Update: Barons Win Game, Check For $10,000

The Ocean City Barons of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League claimed a $10,000 prize for being the lone amateur team left in the field for the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament after J.T. Noone scored a penalty kick in the 108th minute for a 1-0 victory over the USL Second Division's Real Maryland Monarchs Tuesday at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, NJ.


The Barons will now face Major League Soccer's DC United in Round 3 June 30 at the Maryland Soccerplex.

Rochester Rhinos (USL1) 2, Cleveland City Stars (USL1) 1 in overtime @ Marina Auto Stadium, Rochester, NY
Kenny Bertz scored the game-winning goal in the 113th minute and Ryan Heins had the Rhinos' first point in the 82nd minute to knot the score after Ryan Stewart opened the scoring for Cleveland in the 59th minute with an unassisted play.


The Rhinos host the defending MLS champion Columbus Crew June 30 at Marina Auto Stadium.


Harrisburg City Islanders (USL2) 0, Western Mass Pioneers 0 @ Skyline Sports Complex, Harrisburg, PA
(Harrisburg wins penalty kick shootout, 4-3, to advance)
The City Islanders travel to MLS' New England Revolution June 30 at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, CT.


Charleston Battery (USL1) 1, Miami FC Blues (USL1) 0 @ Tropical Park Stadium, Miami, FL
Tyler Hemming scored the game's lone goal on a 65th minute penalty kick. The Battery will host MLS' Chivas USA at Blackbaud Stadium June 30.

Minnesota Thunder (USL1) 4, Chicago Fire (USL PDL) 0 @ National Sports Center, Blaine, MN
Melvin Tarley scored two goals, Leonel St. Preux and Brian Cvilikas added a goal each and Rod Dyachenko assisted on two goals in the victory. The Thunder will host the Kansas City Wizards of MLS June 30.


Austin Aztex (USL1) 2, El Paso Patriots (USL PDL) 0 @ Nelson Field, Austin, TX
In a game that saw four players ejected, three of them from El Paso, Ryan McManus (45') and Ciaran O'Brien (48') advanced the Aztex to host MLS' Houston Dynamo June 30.

Portland Timbers (USL1) 3, Sonoma County Sol (USASA) 0 @ Santa Rosa High School, Santa Rosa, CA
Mandjou Keita scored two late goals and George Josten added the early one as the Timbers eliminated the Sol, allowing the USL Premier Development League's Ocean City Barons to claim the $10,000 prize for the furthest advancing amateur team. Portland will host the Seattle Sounders of MLS July 1 at PGE Park.
