Defender Nick Garcia was traded Tuesday from the San Jose Earthquakes to Toronto FC along with the Discovery Rights to Canadian forward Ali Gerba in exchange for a third round pick in the 2010 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.
Garcia played 24 games for the Earthquakes in 2008 and led San Jose to the fourth best goals allowed average in the league. He began his MLS career in 2004 with the Kansas City Wizards. He also has played six times for the US Men's National Team, the last time in 2004.
Gerba is not under a professional contract at the time but has played extensively in Europe.
To make room for Garcia on the senior roster, Toronto released goalkeeper Greg Sutton, who has only started one of two games this season after losing his number one spot on the depth chart to rookie Stefan Frei.
In 2008, Sutton started and played in 24 games.
