Sonia Bompastor of the Washington Freedom became the first player in Women's Professional Soccer history to sweep all three voting categories en route to being name the league's Player of the Month for May Thursday.
Bompastor received the most votes from media members, players, and online fan voting.
She led the Freedom to a 2-0-2 record last month and they are in second place in the league standings at 3-2-3 with 12 points, well behind the league-leading Los Angeles Sol (6-1-3, 21).
Bompastor had two goals, including a second-half stoppage time header in a 2-2 tie with the St. Louis Athletica, and three assists, two of them in a 3-1 win over FC Gold Pride, during the month.
Washington is currently on a five-game unbeaten streak dating back to April 18.
I think Freedom might be the one to beat Sol on Sunday! Congrats Sonia!
