The Washington Freedom of Women's Professional Soccer announced the acquisition Wednesday of defender/midfielder Ali Krieger from Germany's FFC Frankfurt for the rest of the season and the release of forward Claire Zemmeck.
Krieger was allocated to the Freedom in September 2008, but couldn't not train or play for them until her commitment to Frankfurt was over.
In 2008, Krieger led the team to winning the Women's Bundesliga, the UEFA Women's Cup and the German Cup for the first time in franchise history. She started and played in 19 games with one goal and two assists.
Krieger also played for the 2007 United Soccer Leagues W-League's Washington Freedom championship team and was a member of the US U-21 and U-23 Women's National Teams.
