Molly Menchel had a pair of goals and Brittant Tegeler assisted on two other scores as the Washington Freedom defeated the Connecticut Passion, 4-3, in United Soccer Leagues W-League play from the Wesleyan University Stadium Field.
Meghan Lenczyck contributed a goal and an assist and Caitlin Miskel had a goal to lead the Freedom to a 7-1-0 record and 21 points for second place in the Eastern Conference, Northeast Division, one point behind the division-leading Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues (7-0-1, 22).
Fortuna Velaj, Jasmin Corniel and Kerry Scalora scored for the Passion.
Connecticut is 2-6-1 with seven points and in sixth place in the division.
The Freedom host the Boston Renegades in a Wednesday afternoon match, then travel to the New York Magic Sunday.
Connecticut will visit the Western Mass Lady Pioneers, who won their first W-League game of the season Sunday, on July 11.
