Fire, San Luis Victorious In SuperLiga Group A Play

Justin Mapp scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute as the host Chicago Fire shut out Chivas USA in an all-Major League Soccer game to begin a 2009 SuperLiga Group A doubleheader Tuesday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

In the second game, an all-Mexican Primera Division contest, Jose Reyes had an unassisted goal in the 56th minute and had the game-winning goal in the 76th minute on an Alfredo Montero assist as San Luis edged Tigres UANL, 2-1.

Juan Pablo Garcia Conteras had Tigres' only score in the 74th minute off a pass from Emmanuel Cerdo.

In the Group A standings after two games, Chicago is on top at 2-0-0 with six points, Tigres and San Luis are tied for second at 1-1-0 with three, and Chivas is winless at 0-2-0.

The final round of pool play takes place Saturday as the Fire host Tigres and Chivas welcomes San Luis to The Home Depot Center.

The top two teams in the group face the top two teams from Group B in the semifinals.
