The official draw and schedule for the Preliminary Round games in the 2009-10 season of the CONCACAF Champions League tournament was unveiled Tuesday, with the first of 78 games of competition to begin July 28 when Major League Soccer's DC United hosts El Salvador's Chalatenango.
The Preliminary Field offers three MLS teams (DC United and New York Red Bulls representing the USA, Toronto FC representing Canada), and teams from Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Islanders of United Soccer Leagues First Division), Mexico (Cruz Azul and Pachuca), Costa Rica (Herediano and Liberia), Panama (San Francisco and Arabe Unido), Trinidad & Tobago (San Juan Jabloteh and W Connection), Honduras (Olimpia and Real Espana), El Salvador (Chalatenengo) and Guatemala (Jalapa).
All matches are two-leg, home-and-home, aggregate score series with the winner advancing to the Group Stage Round August 18 and 20.
