Earthquakes Sign Canada's Riberio To Contract

Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes signed Portuguese native and Canadian Men's National Team midfielder Antonio Ribeiro to a contract Friday and will count on their roster as an international player.

Ribiero played two stints with the Montreal Impact of the United Soccer Leagues First Division (2000-01, 2003-08) and played in a combined 119 regular season games (10 goals, nine assists) and 14 postseason games (two goals scored).

He debuted for Canada's team in June 2007 against Venezuela and was a member of the country's 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup team.

He was on the Impact's roster for the inaugural 2008-09 season of the CONCACAF Champions League after earning Canada's lone spot in the tournament field by winning the Nutrilite Canadian Championship, a three-team competition featuring the USL1's Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC of Major League Soccer to claim the Voyageurs Cup as the country's best professional team.

Ribeiro led the Impact to three Voyageurs Cup titles, the 2004 A-League (now USL1) Championship and back-to-back USL1 Commissioners Cup titles in 2004 and 2005 as the league's best overall team.

In 2004, his best season with the team, he had one goal and two assists in 28 appearances, 18 of them starts.

In 2005, he scored the game-winning goal against the Whitecaps to win the USL regular season title and the Voyageurs Cup.
