Dynamo Chips Away At Chivas' Hold On WC Lead

Stuart Holden scored off an assist from newly acquired Cam Weaver two minutes into first half stoppage time as the Houston Dynamo shut out Chivas USA, 1-0, Wednesday at Robertson Stadium in Houston in a battle of the top two teams in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.

The win cuts Chivas' once-mighty lead in the conference standings down to a game difference as Chivas has won two of their last eight games after starting the season 8-1-1 and has not scored a goal against the Dynamo in 645 minutes. They are 2-2-2 on the road this season, 1-4-5 overall against Houston and is 0-4-2 playing in Houston.

The Dynamo, meanwhile, after starting the season 0-1-2, are on a nine-game winning streak (7-0-2), are unbeaten in their last eight overall games against Chivas and haven't given up a goal in 307 minutes.

Chivas is now 8-3-3 with 27 points to lead the conference and remains having the best record in MLS, but Houston is at 7-2-3 with 24 points.

Houston will take on FC Dallas Saturday at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX while Chivas is at the defending MLS champion Columbus Crew Sunday.
