Conor Casey of the Colorado Rapids was named Tuesday Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for May.
Casey, who was named Player of the Week for the second time this season and is a nominee for Goal of the Week honors, had four goals and an assist in leading the Rapids to a 2-0-2 record during the month and help the team maintain a five-game unbeaten streak.
With two goals scored last Saturday in a 3-2 win over the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium, Casey took over the lead for the Budweiser Golden Boot award, which goes to the league's leading goal scorer for the season, with eight and is three goals shy of his career-best total of 11 goals in 21 games he had last season, when he led the Rapids in scoring.
His 11 goals were also the most scored by a Rapids player since Jeff Cunningham has 12 in 2005.
This was Casey's first monthly player award in his career.
