Brazil Hands US First Shutout Loss In Over A Year

Just a year and 10 days after the last time it happened, the US Men's National Team were shut out Thursday, 3-0, by Brazil in their second Group B game at the FIFA Confederations Cup tournament in South Africa.

Maicon led Brazil, five-time World Cup champions, with a goal and an assist on Felipe Melo's goal in the seventh minute of play. Robinho also scored in the victory.

The US was forced to play a man down in the second half after Sasha Kljestan was elected for a foul on Ramires in the 57th minute.

The last time the USMNT was shut out in a game was June 8, 2008 to then-world number one team Argentina.

Thanks to an upset win by Egypt Thursday over Italy, the US still has a remote chance of making it into the semifinals, but it is quite remote -- Brazil would have to beat Italy by at least a goal and the US would have to defeat Egypt by six goals or more Sunday.
