Byron Carmichael scored a seventh minute goal off a William Swerta assist and Ryan Richter doubled the lead for the Ocean City Barons of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League in the 48th minute with help from Bobby Pinto as they defeated the Rhode Island Stingrays, 2-1, Saturday at the Tennessee Avenue Soccer Complex.
Ocean City has a 6-3-1 record with 19 points and is tied for third place in the Eastern Conference, Northeast Division with the Newark Ironbound Express (6-2-1), who they will host Wednesday at Carey Stadium, the night after they face the defending Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament champion DC United of Major League Soccer. Saturday, they welcome the Ottawa Fury.
Rhode Island is 3-6-2 with 11 points and is in sixth place. They travel to the New Jersey Rangers Sunday before facing the New Hampshire Phantoms on the road Wednesday.
