Freedom Defeats Sky Blue At RFK Stadium

Cat Whitehill scored off a Sonia Bompastor assist in the 35th minute, then Lisa De Vanna had an unassisted goal four minutes later as the host Washington Freedom ruined the interim coaching debut of Kelly Lindsey in a 2-1 victory over her Sky Blue FC in Women's Professional Soccer Saturday.

Lindsey took over the team after team president and CEO Thomas Hoffstetter announced he had suspended general manager and head coach Ian Sawyers, claiming differences between him and the organization over the direction of the franchise.

Rosana scored Sky Blue's lone goal in the 65th minute off a Yael Averbach pass.

The Freedom are 2-2-3 with nine points and in fourth place. They next host the FC Gold Pride next Sunday.

Sky Blue is 1-4-2 with five points and in last place in the single table standings and will host the Boston Breakers next Sunday.
