Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls signed 2007 league Most Valuable Player Juan Pablo Angel to a new multi-year deal Monday.
Angel joined the team as their official Designated Player April 17, 2007 and has scored 33 goals in 47 regular season games.
In 2008, he led the Eastern Conference with 14 goals in 23 regular season games, even with missing seven games due to an injury.
In his 2007 debut season after spending most of his professional career in Argentina, he broke a team record for goals in a single season with 19 in 24 games, was a two-time MLS Player of the Month in May and June, and was the leading votegetter for the MLS All-Star Game.
He will begin the 2009 MLS season nine goals shy of breaking the team's all-time record for regular season scored in a career.
