Islanders Ink Clarke To Three-Year Deal

The defending United Soccer Leagues First Division's Commissioner Cup champion Puerto Rico Islanders returned to Bayamon after a training stint in Bradenton, FL Tuesday and announced head coach Colin Clarke, the league's Coach of the Year last season, has signed a three-year contract.

Clarke led the Islanders to the 2008 USL1 Championship Game, where they lost to the eventual champion Vancouver Whitecaps. He was also named Coach of the Year at the annual ASES Awards in Puerto Rico and the Islanders were crowned Team of the Year.

In 2007, the team advanced to the semifinals of the USL1 playoffs, losing to the eventual champion Seattle Sounders. The Islanders also earned a spot in the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League by finished third in the Caribbean Football Union's Club Champions Cup tournament.

Puerto Rico prepares to host two important game in the next few days at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon -- Saturday against Major League Soccer's DC United and February 26 against CD Marathon of Honduras in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals.
