Red Stars Sign England's Carney To Contract

The Chicago Red Stars of Women's Professional Soccer announced Tuesday their first player signing in England forward Karen Carney, the team's third selection in the September 2007 International Draft.

Carney will be reunited with Red Stars head coach Emma Hayes, who trained her as a member of Arsenal Ladies FC in the Football Association in the 2006-07 season. That team won four major trophies that season -- the FA Women's Premier League title, the FA Women's Cup, the FA Women's Premier League Cup and the UEFA Women's Cup.

Carney, a two-time FA National Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006, played 41 games for England's national women's team.
