The Carolina RailHawks of the United Soccer Leagues First Division announced the signings Wednesday of defender John Gilkerson and midfielders Luke Kreamalmeyer and Brian Plotkin.
Gilkerson graduated from Winthrop University in 2008 and was drafted by Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls, where he made his professional debut July 1 in a third round game of the 2008 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament against Crystal Palace Baltimore of the USL Second Division.
Kreamalmeyer started all 30 games last season for the Rochester Rhinos and had 17 points on four goals and nine assists. Drafted by Real Salt Lake of MLS, he played in six games before being transferred to the Portland Timbers, where he had nine goals in two seasons before joining Rochester.
Platkin was part of two straight NCAA College Cup championship teams at Indiana and was a finalist for the Hermann Award, college soccer's highest honor. Drafted by the Chicago Fire in 2006, he had one goal and one assist in 23 games over two seasons before being traded to the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew in 2008.
