Player-head coach Bernie Lilavois set a Professional Arena Soccer League record Wednesday with six goals and an assist as the Stockton Cougars defeated the Wenatchee Fire, 13-6, at Stockton Arena and moved closer to clinching the league's first Western Division championship.
Aaron Susi added two goals in the victory with Brian Farber, Nelson Santana, Majell Aterado, Ato Leone and Renato Dos Rios each adding a goal.
The Cougars are now 7-3 on the season and have a two-game lead over the Denver Dynamite and a three-game lead over the Colorado Lightning in the standings. Stockton's magic number for clinching the division is four with six games remaining in the season.
Stockton steps away from league play in their next two games to face La Raza de Monterrey of the National Indoor Soccer League in Copa America play Friday in Stockton and February 5 in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Fire (1-9) next host the Lightning February 14 at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsplex.
